How to Clean Resin

After use, wipe blades with a soft cloth to remove any residue. For stubborn buildup, use isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) on a cloth and wipe the blades clean. Avoid submerging the shears—moisture can affect the pivot. Dry thoroughly before storing.

How to Oil the Pivot

Apply one small drop of lightweight lubricating oil (such as sewing-machine or pivot oil) to the pivot point where the blades meet. Open and close the shears several times to work the oil in. Wipe away excess. Repeat monthly or whenever the action feels stiff.

Proper Storage

Store your shears in a clean, dry place. Avoid humidity and contact with corrosive materials. If your tools came with a blade cover or sheath, use it to protect the edges. Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent unnecessary wear on handles.

When to Sharpen

Sharpen when cuts become ragged or require more force than usual. Frequency depends on use—light use may need sharpening once or twice a year; heavy use may need it more often. Use a professional sharpening service or a quality sharpening tool designed for bypass blades.

What NOT to Do

  • Do not submerge shears in water or leave them wet.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives on the blades.
  • Do not cut wire, plastic, or hard materials not intended for trimming.
  • Do not store in damp or humid conditions.
  • Do not over-tighten the pivot—it can damage the mechanism.
